Islamabad, June 30: The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) on Monday declared the results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Part-II examinations, with girls excelling in both science and humanities groups by clinching the top positions.

Overall pass percentage remained 81.77 per cent for the examinations held in March-April this year. The pass percentage for regular and private students remained 91.63 and 41.98 per cent, respectively.

In science group, Aatiqa Sohail Khan of Fauji Foundation College for Girls, New Lalazar in Rawalpindi; and Misbah Zeb of Army Public School, Okara Cantonment, bagged the top position. Both students secured 1,007 marks out of the total 1,050 marks.

The second position was secured by Nasar Mubarak of PAF Public School Lower Topa, Murree; and Iman Akhtar of Army Public School, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Saddar Karachi Cantonment. Both secured 1,004 marks each.Similarly, the third position was shared by Komal Mushtaq of Fazaia Model Inter College, Mushaf Sargoda; and Seema Kanwal of Army Public School, Stadium Road Hamza camp Rawalpindi. Both obtained 1,002 marks.

In the humanities group, Komal Gilani of F.G. Girls High School Loi Bhir clinched the top position by securing 931 marks, followed by Maimuna Ahmad of F.G. Girls Model School G-6/1-3, Islamabad, who obtained 921 marks. Mehwish Bibi of F.G. Girls Model School G-11/2, Islamabad, stood third by securing 911 marks.

The overall percentage among girls appearing in science and humanitarian groups remained 96.2 and 83.11 per cent, respectively. Likewise, the percentage among boys in science and humanities groups remained 91.84 and 73.26 per cent, respectively.

A total of 47,124 students, both boys and girls appeared as regular candidates and 43,147 of them were declared successful. The number of private students was 11,745, but just 4,897 passed the examinations.

The FBISE announced that 54 cases of use of unfair means were reported this year. Fifty of these cases had been decided while the remaining four cases were being processed.

The FBISE advised the candidates whose results have been withheld for want of fee/eligibility to resolve discrepancies immediately to enable the office to declare their results.

The board has also announced that the supplementary examinations of will commence from August 25. It said the candidates, who have failed in four subjects in the first attempt, should reappear in all the subjects. The results are also available on the FBISE website . Dawn

Faisalabad: Students of the Government College University Faisalabad's bachelor of telecom engineering on Tuesday lifted their voice to demand recognition with the Pakistan Engineering Council.

The university administration, however, says the requirements for the PEC have been completed and a team is expected to visit the institute soon to give a go-ahead to the accreditation.

The students boycotted their classes and blocked traffic at main Imambargah, Narawala, Chiniot and Kutchery Bazaar chowks and demonstrated outside the press club.

The banners and placards they had held were inscribed with slogans highlighting their demand.

The students said the university had set June 30 as deadline for their discipline's accreditation with the PEC but the authorities failed to do so much to their disappointment.

They questioned the varsity administration's claim that they had fulfilled all requirements for the PEC recognition though, they said, the PEC website declared the course week.

They appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take suo motu notice of the situation and direct the PEC to recognise the department.

Dr Shahid Mehboob Rana, the vice chancellor, said the varsity had fulfilled the requirements by recruiting a professor, two deputy directors, two assistant professors, nine lecturers and two lab engineers. He said they would join the institution within two to three days.

"The university has also provided nearly 2,500 books to the department and formed a contemporary lab to meet the other PEC requirement," he said. Dawn

Sanjay Gadhvi Dumps Priyanka?

If reports are to be believed, Priyanka Chopra has just lost out on 7 Days in Paris.Mumbai Mirror reports that the star was approached to star in the film to be directed by Sanjay Gadhvi. However riding on the success of Fashion and the latest Yash Raj project she’s just bagged, Priyanka Chopra reportedly demanded tad too much as fees.”The producers were shocked when Priyanka asked for such a huge fee (Rs 5 cr).

They tried to reason with her but she refused to relent,” the paper quoted a source as having said. Officially however, Priyanka Chopra’s spokesperson insisted that the star was not approached for the film at all.The paper also reports that Katrina Kaif, who reportedly turned down the role earlier, might agree to do the film ‘as the script is being reworked’.

Meanwhile the makers of 7 Days in Paris are also said to be in ‘advanced talks’ with Genelia and Asin Thottumkal.

And I couldn’t believe what my director Kabir Khan had achieved in my performance. I kept staring at myself. ‘That’s me!’ I exclaimed at the end of the film.This is the first time that Katrina has played a character who echoes her own personality. “So far all my characters have been pretty alien to me.Even the London girl in Chandigarh in Namastey London was not at all like me.

But the girl in New York connects deeply with me.Or do I connect with her?It’s symbiotic, I think,” she says.When she saw what synthesis of ‘actor’ and ‘character’ had been achieved she simply broke down.Remembering that evening, Katrina says, “It was a very private screening. Only members of the cast, our director, his wife and the producer were there. I’ve never been so impressed by any of my films. So far they’ve all been in the orbit of escapist entertainment. New York is my first realistic film. I’m proud of all my films.

But this is new chapter in my career.Katrina will be devoting the next two weeks solely to promoting the film. So far our producers Yash Raj Films haven’t allowed us to talk about New York. Even now I can’t talk much about it without giving away the plot. But I’m very proud of what we’ve done.

Health Comes First for Shahrukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan is in no mood to take any more chances with his health. His film, Ra 1 to be directed by Anubhav Sinha, will only go on the floors next year as Shah Rukh has not recovered fully from his shoulder injury. As a result, the film will roll in mid 2010 instead of September 2009. A source said, “SRK has been suffering because of his shoulder injury. He had injured himself on the sets of Dulha Mil Gaya a few months ago. After his surgery, SRK started shooting for Karan Johar’s My Name is Khan, which he will soon complete. However, he decided to temporarily put Ra 1 on hold as he is required to do some serious action sequences in the film.

SRK decided to push Ra 1 to 2010 after he recently went for a check-up in the US where he is currently shooting for Karan’s film. After the check-up, SRK felt the time is not right to do the action film as there is quite a high risk that his injury will aggravate if he doesn’t take it easy. Now, SRK has decided to first start Farah Khan’s film Happy New Year.This is the second time that Ra 1 has been put on hold. It was first supposed to go on the floors in February 2009 but was pushed to September due to SRK’s injury. The actor was so excited about the action film that he had planned to go on a strict diet to get in shape.

Shah Rukh plays a superhero in Ra 1, which is full of SFX and state-of-the-art gizmos just like Bond films. SRK was so excited about this science fiction film that he had even suggested the title. Director Anubhav Sinha patiently heard us out and promised to call back but he was later unavailable for comment.

But he misjudged where I was going to fall, I lost my step and almost fell on the ground flat on my face! Fortunately, Saif managed to grab the end of my kurta and I didn’t hurt myself badly. It was a difficult scene, because I don’t drink at all so I had to imagine how it is to really get drunk!”

Tamil actress Lakshmi Rai, who has been romantically linked with M.S. Dhoni, rubbishes reports that she flew down to Mumbai from here to console the Indian cricket skipper after the Indian team was ousted from the T20 World Cup. A Tamil daily had published the report.

“Though I was deeply upset by India’s exit from the T20 World Cup, I didn’t break down into tears as reported. Neither did I fly to Mumbai to meet Dhoni to talk to him and console him… it’s nothing but media’s figment of imagination. I just sent a consoling message to Dhoni and that’s all,” said the actress.

DNA confirms Shineys Rape Act

Well the truth is out now for everyone who were waiting to know weather Shiney was innocent or a rapist. The DNA report is out and confirms that Shiney Ahuja indeed raped his 19-year-old maid.

Shiney’s body only bore one abrasion, that on his right hand which Police say was due to the maid’s resistance towards him when he forced himself upon her.

Shiney will be under arrest till 2nd July and has been booked for raping, wrong restraint and threat to kill charges.

The movie tells the story of a wealthy zamindar and his beautiful wife. The zamindar is in habit of visiting brothels and kothas which leaves the wife lonely. Then there is a young man named Bhoot Nath who is hired as a servant to this zamindar. Bhootnath comes close to the lonely wife and both soon develop a platonic relationship. Then Bhootnath comes to know and feel his mistress’s loneliness and the life she is cursed to live.

Having a most unusual pair of Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma in the lead roles Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions’ forthcoming venture ‘Wake Up Sid’ seems to awake much enthusiasm among the cinelovers. Bipasha Refuses to Hollywood Star's Demand

Bipasha Basu has recently signed an international project with Hollywood star Billy Zane. But she is not willing to bend down to anyone’s demands.

She has made it clear that she is not going to go out of her way to keep the makers of the film happy. And the makers of the film just tasted one such experience.

A photo shoot with the main leads of the film had been planned and they were to even do a look test together. The shoot had been planned in Los Angeles because Billy Zane did not want to to India just for a photo shoot.

The producers felt they could convince Bips easily to fly down to LA. But Bipasha refused.

Her argument was that if the film was to be shot in India and Zane had signed the film, then it should not be a great deal for him to come to India for the shoot.

Since it is a joint venture, Bipasha wanted to assert her stand as well. The producers have not managed to convince Billy yet, but Bips is not relenting too. Let’s see who gives in first.

Priyanka Chopra, the sizzling hot sexy bombshell who was approached by Dhoom director Sanjay Gadhvi for his upcoming flick 7 Days In Paris, has been thrown out of the project due to her outrageous demand of Rs 5 crore for working in the film.

Sources say that initially the producers and director Sanjay Gadhvi were taken aback at the beautiful lass’ demand but later tried to reason it out to some reasonable level. However, Piggy Chops was adamant on getting the full amount of Rs 5 crore if she was wanted in the film. Finally, Sanjay Gadhvi, who had directed the super duper hit film ‘Dhoom’ with Hrithik and Aishwarya for Yashraj, decided to dump Priyanka and wait for some other bollywood babe to work in the film.

One theory that is doing rounds in the industry about reasons Priyanka Chopra demanded such a huge amount is that she thought she was doing a favor by working opposite Imran Khan in ‘7 Days in Paris’. Sources say that Priyanka’s reasoning was simple that Imran Khan might have been successful in ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’, but his ‘Kidnap’ with Sanjay Gadhvi had bombed at the box office, and so the upcoming film will largely depend on her craze at the box office, and hence the demand was justified.

Another theory in this regard has to do with Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming mega- budget Yashraj flick ‘Pyar Impossible’. Priyanka has been paired in the film with Uday Chopra (Yash Chopra’s son) and to compensate this, Yashraj Films paid the oomph queen a sum of Rs 3 crore, which is great, considering the fact that Yashraj never pays handsomely to its stars.

Priyanka Chopra wanted the same Yashraj yardstick to apply in the case of Sanjay Gadhvi’s flick ‘7 Days in Paris’ and so demanded her price to work with a lesser star like Imran Khan. However, in this case director Sanjay Gadhvi and producers thought otherwise and threw Priyanka out of the project.It may be recalled that Priyanka Chopra’s latest films like ‘Dostana’, ‘Fashion’ etc, which proved to be super successful at the box office, have put her on a high pedestal, and hence her demand for Rs 5 crore was not fully unjustified (at least Priyanka thinks so).

However, as ‘7 Days in Paris’ is scheduled to go on the floors by next month, director Sanjay Gadhvi has already initiated talks with other bollywood hot babes. Sources reveal that Gadhvi is already in advanced stage of talks with southern sensation Asin, who had made her bollywood debut opposite Aamir Khan in ‘Ghajni’.

There is also talk that Imran Khan’s heroine Genelia D’Souza from his hit film ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ may be roped in, if talks with Asin fail to come to some positive conclusion.

However, director Sanjay Gadhvi and Priyanka Chopra preferred to keep mum on the issue and remained unavailable for comment.

Kareena, Katrina Have Sexy Bodies: Akshay

Akshay Kumar has worked with both Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in several films, but can't decide who is better. The action king says both are "wonderful actresses" and have "sexy bodies".

"Both Kareena and Katrina are really good but who is the better among them depends on their roles in the films. Otherwise, both of them have sexy bodies and are absolutely wonderful actresses," said Akshay when asked to choose his favourite of the two.

Akshay has done four films with Katrina including Namastey London and Singh Is Kinng, while he has worked with Kareena in five that include hits Ajnabee and Aitraaz. The two are set to scorch the screen once again in their upcoming action-cum-romantic drama Kambakkht Ishq, which releases this coming Friday.

"In Kambakkht Ishq, Kareena has performed very well. Her character required to answer back at me and be strong and she has portrayed it in a powerful, yet lovable way. On the other hand, even Katrina was really good in Namastey London. So it's not really about my choice... it all depends on their roles," the actor said.

Akshay, who has spent more than 18 years in the Hindi film industry, says acting with a new league of actresses is a learning experience.

"As a senior actor, I don't always have to give out tips to the younger ones. In fact, I feel I can learn a lot from the younger generation because they have new ways of acting and a different approach to work.

"I cannot particularly point out what I have learnt from them (Kareena and Katrina) yet, but yes, working with them was a learning experience," said the actor, who has also teamed up with Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Ayesha Takia.

Akshay plays a Hollywood stuntman in Kambakkht Ishq, which also boasts of big Hollywood names like Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards and Brandon Routh - working with whom has been a "dream come true" for the actor.

In the film, Akshay has done what he is best at - action and daredevilry - something that had taken a backseat in his career for a while.

"I decided to stop doing stunts till Aarav (son) turns at least six. Now I'm back at it again. In Blue, which is an action thriller, I have done some death-defying stunts like the one where I had to swim 150 feet underwater with 30-40 sharks. But I will talk about it sometime later," he said.

At the moment, the 41-year-old actor is pinning hopes on Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambakkht Ishq to bail him out after his much-publicised films Chandni Chowk To China and 8X10 Tasveer fizzled out at the box office.

"I'm expecting great response for this film. Though I had worked very hard in Chandni Chowk... , the response didn't turn out to be as expected. Some people and critics didn't like it and 8X10 Tasveer was more like an art film, which has a niche market in India. Kambakkht Ishq is a complete entertainer and I hope the audience appreciates it," he said.

I was to lose my balance and fall, and Saif was supposed to grab me and break my fall. But he misjudged where I was going to fall, I lost my step and almost fell on the ground flat on my face! Fortunately, Saif managed to grab the end of my kurta and I didn't hurt myself badly. It was a difficult scene, because I don't drink at all so I had to imagine how it is to really get drunk!"

Kareena Kapoor walked out in a huff from the promotional event of her forthcoming film ‘Kambakkht Ishq‘ where she was Offended by a TV journalist’s query on whether she was prepared to go nude for a film. The incident occurred after the question-and-answer session with media persons at a city hotel.

She had told reporters: ‘I am open to any kind of film whether it is ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Omkara’, ‘Dev’, ‘Gomaal Returns’ or ‘Kambakkht Ishq’… because all my films are different and if the script and the film demands anything - I am such an actress that I’d do anything for both the script and the film.’

After this, during a group interview a Punjabi news channel journalist asked her pointedly , if ’she would go nude for any role in the future’.

Kareena, who has worn a bikini in ‘Tashan’ and also the forthcoming ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, has recently stated she would not wear a bikini in future for any film.

Karachi, June 29: The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) is likely to announce the result of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Part-II (Matriculation) General Group (both Regular and Private) candidates on Monday (today).

Interestingly, the BSEK has not arranged any ceremony to honour position-holders, while high officials of the board seem to be deliberately avoiding the question-answer session which used to be a part of result announcement process.

This is the second time in a row that the board is not holding this ceremony and the main reason behind avoiding the event appears to be corruption during the examinations held in March-April 2009 in which several high-level officials were allegedly involved.

Sources said that some high officials of the board had allegedly supported the "cheating-mafia" by allocating them desired examination centres in order to facilitate special students who had paid a heavy amount for such services.

Several such examinations centres unearthed in Saudabad, Port Qasim, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Gulshan-e-Iqbal, which were offering special examination rooms to the candidates who had paid huge money for the purpose.

Some board officials were also blamed for selling "top-rank" positions to certain private schools, coaching centres or in some cases even individuals for some obvious reasons, the sources said. Sources further alleged that the BSEK officials had also committed departmental irregularities during the annual examinations last year.

The result of a school in Sahabdad Goth, Malir, was withheld under the same (cheating) charges and the former BSEK controller Javed Iftikhar blacklisted the school and banned it from conducting any exams in the future.

However, no major changes were seen during the annual examination 2009, as the "cheating-mafia" managed to continue its business in connivance with some officials, sources alleged.

During this year's exams, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan took serious notice of the matter and cancelled the contract of BSEK Secretary Asif Pasha Siddiqui, Examination Controller Javed Iftikhar and Deputy Controller Bizad Ullah Khan with immediate effect. The governor had also ordered an enquiry against eight other employees of the board

Islamabad: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Monday distributed medals among students who secured positions in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Part-II Annual Examinations 2009 of the Federal Board Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE).

It was for the first time that a prime minister distributed medals among position-holders of the SSC examinations. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani also presented laptops to position-holders.

On the occasion, the prime minister talked with position-holders to get first-hand knowledge about missing facilities and problems faced by them in their respective academic institutions. He asked searching questions from students and issued directives for resolution of their problems.

During the process when students expressed satisfaction over facilities provided to them in their respective schools, he jokingly remarked that the same satisfaction is expressed by MNAs when he asks them about any problem.

In a light mood, the prime minister asked students what their schools lacked except for electricity. "I know that there is shortage of electricity, what else they do not have in their schools," he asked.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani announced launching of an educational crusade on emergent basis to achieve the target of 100% literacy by 2015.

He said that the new education policy would be announced soon which would cater to the present-day requirements. He said under the new policy all science subjects would be taught in English right from class one.

He said the government is giving priority to both primary and higher education and providing necessary resources for the purpose. He said the government would encourage all those organisations in private sector, which are willing to contribute to the promotion of education.

He said that education is key to progress and prosperity and the government is determined to secure Pakistan and take it to the zenith of development through education. He said the government is striving to provide peaceful environment to the educational institutions and also committed to eliminate those elements, who are stopping girls from attending schools.

He said that the Holy Qur'aan and Hadith are our proud heritage and these are a beacon for us. He extended congratulations to position-holders and expressed confidence that they would scale more heights in their career.

Bollywood Baadshah SRK is all set to become Dr-SRK as Britain’s University of Bedforshire are planning to award him an honorary doctorate in arts and culture.

The hot actor from India, was nominated by NGO Routes to Roots for his first ever doctorate.

Reacting on the news, SRK says, “I am delighted that Routes to Roots nominated me for the honorary doctorate in arts and culture from the Bedfordshire University, Britain, and it will be my pleasure to receive it personally July 10 in London.”

Bipasha Leaves Injured John In Mumbai

The bollywood hunk John Abraham was in Mumbai nursing his injured foot, his girlfriend, actress Bipasha Basubipasha, merrily walked the green carpet at the IIFA awards and said she didnt miss his presence.

“Why should I miss John? I am not missing him,” Bipasha said.

“Why would anyone miss anyone for two days? Even if he was here, I wouldn`t have been able to give him enough time because I had to rehearse for my performance and he is happy taking care of his foot in Mumbai. I guess he is the one missing out on all the fun here,” she added.

John had recently fractured his foot while shooting a cricket match for David Dhawan`s “Hook Ya Crook” and is bound by a cast for a month, which is why he couldn`t make it to Macau.

Intel Moves to Larrabee into 2010 || What a move

According to a report published by c’t magazine, Intel is now aiming to launch Larrabee in a variety of flavors in 2010 and has scrapped the previous late 2009 plan. Intel’s Joseph Schultz made this comment during the opening of a visual computing research center in Saarbruecken, Germany. Spokesman Nick Knupffer confirmed the narrowed-down date, but declined to provide further comments.
Schultz also told c’t that it will be a “big challenge” to compete with Nvidia’s and AMD’s products and especially highlighted the power-efficiency achieved by AMD’s Radeon graphics cards.

What we know, however, is that the device will be based on second-generation Pentium processor technology with the P54C core. The first Pentium core (P5, 800 nm, 60 and 66 MHz) was in development since 1989 and was introduced in 1993. The P54C was launched in 1994 with speeds up to 120 MHz, while the succeeding 350 nm P54CS reached 200 MHz. The 55C core (280 nm up to 233 MHz) followed in 1995 and was replaced with the Pentium II in 1997.

Larrabee is expected to come in multiple flavors with at least 8 cores at the low-end have at least 32 cores on the high-end. At a clock speed of 2 GHz, the 32-core version could be topping a theoretical maximum performance of 2 TFlops.

Rawalpindi: Females are the main beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), as over 5.5 million families have been registered under the scheme up till now.

Benazir Income Support Programme Chairperson Farzana Raja stated this while speaking at the Montessori Certificate Distribution Ceremony at the Roots School, DHA Campus, here. She said: "We are giving Rs1,000 per month to women so that their family members give them due respect."

She said that Nadra has registered 2.2 million females in the country during the last six months. She stated that 18,000 were registered in Fata where they face life threats. The government has pledged to bring a social change through the BISP. In the next phase, these families would be provided with basic health facilities and accidental coverage up to Rs25,000. Females would be imparted vocational training and skills to enable them to start their own business and earn livelihood for their families.

Farzana Raja praised the Roots National Institute of Teachers Training and Education for providing professional training and community education free of cost to underprivileged teachers. The first batch includes 120 participants, including teachers from rural areas, government schoolteachers, housewives, young mothers, professional doctors, fashion designers and teachers from Khairpur, Sindh.

RNITTE Director Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq said that the institute was founded with the strategic national aim of imparting teacher training at the national level to help bridge the gap and develop a pool of professionally certified teachers who would become value added members of society.
